Welcome to Bright New Beginnings! Supporting You Navigate a Career in Law (and Beyond!)

Hello and welcome to my blog, Bright New Beginnings! I’m thrilled to have you here.

I have had the pleasure of speaking with hundreds of high school students who dream of going to college and becoming lawyers one day. I understand that journey well; I knew from the age of 13 that I wanted to become a lawyer, but I had no idea what it would take to get there.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to run a program that connected students—from elementary school through community college—with law students, lawyers, and judges to discuss legal careers. I often participated in these conversations, sharing insights and resources. Additionally, I served on the Advisory Council for a pre-law program at a local community college for many years, where I had the opportunity to speak with students from diverse backgrounds about their aspirations to transfer to a four-year college and eventually apply to law school.

In all these forums and in many others, I noticed that aspiring lawyers often asked the same types of questions. These repeated conversations inspired me to start a Google Doc entitled “Thinking About Law School?,” where I listed resources, scholarship information, and guidance that I frequently shared during presentations, assemblies, and one-on-one sessions. As I continue speaking to groups about a career in law, I continue to add more information to the resource guide or compiling other types of documents, including information on planning for one’s financial wellness alongside career planning.

As time passed, young people who had accessed the document began reaching out to share updates about their academic and professional journeys. They even sent me information about new legal fellowships and other opportunities, suggesting that I add them to the resource doc. It was heartwarming to hear that the resources I compiled were making a difference. Some even suggested that I put these resources on a website so that they would be accessible to everyone. Their encouragement inspired me to take the next step.

So here we are! I’ve decided to create this blog to share the resources and insights I’ve gathered over the years. Whether you are considering a career in law or are already on your way, I hope you will find helpful information here. From exploring legal careers to navigating law school applications and beyond, this site is for anyone interested in the legal profession, regardless of where you are in your academic journey.

For those of you who are already in law school, I aim to share resources that can support you as you navigate your studies and plan your career. I am actively involved in my alma mater, UCLA School of Law, and finished my term as President of the UCLA Law Alumni Association Board of Directors in May 2024.

If you have graduated from law school and are working in the public interest legal sector, I will provide resources tailored to your needs as well. This includes updates on Public Service Loan Forgiveness and other relevant information.

As I launch this site, I would love to hear from you. If there are specific topics or types of information you would like to see, please leave a comment here or email me at ana@brightnewbeginnings.blog. Your feedback and suggestions will help me make this site even more valuable.

I also have several resources, including guides and workbooks, available for download or purchase at www.brightnewbeginnings.blog/shop.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to sharing insights, resources, and inspiration to help you achieve your dreams and make informed decisions about your legal career. Welcome to Bright New Beginnings!
